VIDEO: The Repeal mural is back in Temple Bar and it can never (ever) be removed again

JOE

You really can’t paint over an issue.

Maser’s mural at the Project Arts Centre in Temple Bar, removed due to objections by the pro-life campaign and because it was in contravention of certain planning laws, is back.

Using an Augmented Reality (AR) marker in the exact spot where the mural previously stood, the message of the mural now has the power to spread further than ever before.

The mural has been reprinted on donuts, on t-shirts, on faces and now has its own AR code which, when viewed through an Android phone (Apple technology coming soon), makes it visible anywhere.

The code can be scanned and printed from this website. Its organisers, the Hunreal Issues, are asking people to share the it ‘online, offline or with your granny.’

The AR code gives people a chance to own the mural, the message and the movement, to stick it anywhere and everywhere, legally.

Repealing the eighth amendment is not a feminist issue, it is not a women’s issue, repealing the eighth is everybody’s issue.

This is a law that effectively places a lower value on women’s physical and mental health than that given to other citizens.

To have control over your own body should not be a privilege but it is a freedom that is denied to so many. Are we all equal? Yes. Is that reflected in the law? No.

Until women have autonomy over their bodies, true equality cannot be.
