Maleek Lawal suffered a suspected heart attack last Friday.

McDonald’s Restaurants of Ireland have extended their “deepest sympathies” to the family of Maleek Lawal following his tragic death in Dublin last weekend.

Maleek, who was just nine years old, was reported to have suffered a cardiac arrest while in the company of his mother at a McDonald’s restaurant in the Ilac Centre in Dublin on Friday evening.

He was later taken by ambulance to Temple Street Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On Thursday afternoon, McDonald’s Restaurants of Ireland issued a statement in relation to media reports about Lawal’s death.

“McDonald’s Restaurants of Ireland is aware of a number of news reports in relation to the death of a child in Dublin city centre on Friday, October 7 2016,” the statement read.

“Management and staff wish to extend their deepest sympathies to the family involved.

“As a point of clarification, the company wishes to advise that this tragic incident did not occur in a McDonald’s restaurant.”

Maleek’s football club, Iveagh Trust FC, who he had only recently joined along with his brother, have called off all games this weekend as a mark of respect.
