Met Éireann forecasts massive swing in temperature this week

Sarah McKenna Barry

Plenty of sunny days are on the way, though the mercury will plummet as we head into the evenings.

It looks like we’re in for quite a mixed bag weather-wise, with Met Éireann forecasting a major dip in temperature this week.

Overall, the days are set to be “mostly dry”, with temperatures remaining in the low to mid-teens, but we are in for much chillier weather, with the mercury dropping below zero at night.

Today (26 April) will be “largely dry”, with some “good sunny spells”, and just the occasional shower developing in the east of the country.

We may see some scattered showers in the afternoon, though these will become more isolated as we head into the evening.

Highest temperatures today are expected to be between 11 and 16 degrees, though these will turn much cooler overnight.

While tonight will be dry, the weather will be chilly, with lowest temperatures ranging between 0 and 5 degrees, with grass frost, mist and fog developing in parts.

Tomorrow, however, will be dry and sunny, with highest temperatures of 10 to 16 degrees on the cards, though it will be cooler in the north, and milder in the west and southwest.

Temperatures will dip once again tomorrow night, with Met Éireann forecasting lows between -1 and and 4 degrees, with patches of mist and fog developing.

Thursday, meanwhile, will be a cloudier day than today and tomorrow, with highest temperatures between 11 and 15 degrees expected.

Thursday night will see lows between -1 and 4 degrees with mist and fog patches forming.

We’re in for another pleasant sunny day on Friday, with a temperature range of 10 to 15 degrees forecast, though the weather will dip once more on Friday night, with lowest temperatures ranging between 1 to 5 degrees.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday, Met Éireann says, will be a “largely cloudy day with a few outbreaks of rain and drizzle”, and highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.

The further outlook from Met Éireann suggests that beyond this week, temperatures could rise to 17 degrees.
