Expect some sleet, hail and thunder too.

It’s a weird and wonderful insight into the mindset of Irish people that whenever this author hears the word snow, bread shortly follows after. Beast from the East, anyone?

Well, here’s hoping that the latest update from Met Éireann doesn’t lead to bread shortages because there’s a forecast for snow to fall in parts of Munster and Leinster today.

In the morning, it’s expected to be dry in the east with a few bright spells.

Things aren’t as rosy for those on the west coast, because a persistent spell of heavy rain is expected on Wednesday morning, with a risk of hail and thunder. Sadly, the rain is set to spread to most areas later today.

Met Éireann says that “some of the rain will turn to sleet and snow in Munster and Leinster, mainly later this afternoon and evening”.

As for Wednesday night, expect to see outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow, which will gradually clear southwards with cold, clear spells developing.

The mercury is set to drop on Wednesday evening too with lowest temperatures of 0 to +2 degrees forecast.

All in all, it’s going to be nippy.
