Met Éireann has issued a fresh weather warning as rain beats down on parts of the country.

The warning, issued at 1pm on Wednesday afternoon, concerns five counties — Galway, Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo and Mayo. The warning will remain in effect until 1pm on Thursday.

According to Met Éireann, those five counties can expect “Heavy thundery downpours over the next 24 hours are likely to lead to rainfall accumulation of 30 to 50mm.”

There has also been an update issued to the previous wind warning for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.

The warning, which reads “West to southwest winds veering west to northwest with mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h with gusts between 90 and 110km/h. Winds possibly higher for a short time this evening along western coastal areas,” is now in effect until midnight between Thursday and Friday.
