Met Éireann issues Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for Donegal

Stephen Porzio

The weekend ain’t looking much better.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for Donegal.

The warning is valid until 10pm on Thursday night and states there will be scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

Met Éireann also said that due to heavy showers in Donegal, there is also a risk of localised flooding.

While the rain will be heavy in Ulster, Met Éireann’s forecast says some parts of the country, mainly in southwest Munster, will remain largely or completely dry.

In terms of the weekend, there will be a mix of sunny spells and showers on Saturday.

Some of the rain may be heavy, bringing the risk of isolated thunderstorms.

Sunday will similarly see a blend of sunny spells and scattered showers, with the rain becoming widespread during the afternoon and turning heavy or thundery at times.

Met Éireann’s summary for the next week reads: “Remaining unsettled through the weekend and into next week with showers and sunny spells. Temperatures remaining slightly below average for the time of year.”
