Storm Bronagh

Three storms in a week? In this economy?

Met Éireann, following on from the UK Met Office’s announcement of Storm Bronagh, have clarified the effects that the storm will have on Irish soil.

In a statement posted on their website,

“A wave depression is expected to deepen, as it tracks close to the southeast coast of Ireland today. It will track up the east Irish Sea and into northern England later today and tonight. As a result the UK Met Office have named it Storm Bronagh.

Heavy and possibly thundery rain will affect Ireland today and for a time tonight, with a rainfall warning in operation for parts of south and east Munster and South Leinster.”

Met Éireann issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for seven counties this morning: Cork, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Tipperary, Waterford and Carlow.

To add insult to injury, Met Éireann is also warning about a possible second storm that could hit Ireland this weekend.

“The weather remains changeable and disturbed for the coming weekend and there is potential for another storm to form late Saturday into Sunday. The track of the depression is uncertain at this stage and both Met Éireann and the UK Met Office are monitoring developments. Further updates  and relevant warnings will be issued as appropriate.”
