We are still set for a pleasant Bank Holiday weekend and an even nicer next week.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for four counties in the west of Ireland over flooding fears.

The warning is in effect now until 6pm on Thursday and applies to Clare, Galway, Limerick and Mayo.

Met Éireann says scattered thunderstorms in these counties will bring heavy downpours on Thursday afternoon, along with a risk of spot flooding.

According to the forecaster, the showers will extend further north and east during the rest of the day. However, many parts of the midlands and east will stay dry with sunny spells.

Highest temperatures on Thursday will range from 14 degrees in the south to 20 degrees in the north. Winds will be generally breezy but strong at times in coastal areas.

In terms of the Bank Holiday weekend, Met Éireann’s summary reads: “A good deal of dry weather though there will be some rain and showers at times with the driest conditions on Sunday.

“Mild in the sunshine, with temperatures around average for the time of year.”

Meanwhile, Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather has said that while the weather may be a bit cooler today and tomorrow, particularly in the south of the country, it is set to improve into the Bank Holiday weekend and across the coming week.

“It looks like next week the temperatures will steadily increase and we could be into well above 20 degrees by later next week.

“Maybe 23, 24 degrees, possibly even reaching 25 degrees later next week,” O’Reilly told JOE.
