There’s some very wintry weather heading our way, according to Met Éireann

Snow

So much for the first day of spring.

Met Éireann have warned that freezing temperature, icy conditions and snow can all be expected over the coming days.

We already miss January.

Rain, sleet, snow and strong winds are expected to batter the country this weekend, so you might want to start adding to your Netflix list right… around… now.

The heaviest showers on Thursday will be in Connacht, Ulster and West Munster, while hail and isolated thunderstorms remain a possibility.

Temperatures are expected to drop as low as -2 degrees overnight.

“Tomorrow is going to be cold, it will get a little bit milder in the evening and going through the night but then it will be back to being cold weather on Saturday,” said Joan Blackburn from Met Éireann.

“Saturday will be a bit like today, there will be some sunshine, showers and hail, as you would expect in the winter time really.

“The showers will mainly be in western and northern coastal counties during the morning but they will become widespread in the afternoon.”

Early next week, the threat of snow increases.

“There is a risk of snow, it is unlikely that we will have any today or tomorrow, there could be some on higher ground tomorrow evening,” Blackburn added.

“Certainly as you go through next week though there is a risk of winter precipitation.”
