Met Éireann promise us yet another big freeze as temperatures drop

Let it snow.

Met Éireann have promised wintry showers into the afternoon as temperatures drop across the country.

The northwest could see thunderstorms, while temperatures will not rise above seven degrees Celsius (and that’s before the dreaded wind chill).

“Feeling raw today with gusty west to southwest winds,” reports the weather service. “Sunshine & scattered showers will continue, with some further wintry showers into this afternoon. Risk of thunder too in the northwest. Highest temperatures of only 4 to 7 degrees Celsius, with an added wind chill effect.”

The showers are expected to die out as night falls, but that’s when you might want to turn the heat up to 11 on the dial, even if the dial only goes to 10. Are you with us?

“The showers will become more isolated this evening and tonight; mainly confined to Atlantic coastal areas. Very cold, with frost and ice, as air temperatures fall back to between -1 and +1 degrees Celsius. Winds will also ease; mainly southwesterly in direction.”
