We’re lucky we weren’t blown away.
Though thousands of homes remain without power on Saturday, Storm Hannah passed off with causing too much damage as it battered Ireland’s south-west coast.
A status red weather warning had been issued for Clare and Kerry, but thankfully that has now passed.
On Saturday morning, Met Éireann revealed the highest mean wind speeds, as well as the highest gust speeds recorded throughout the storm. The highest came at Galway’s Mace Head where there was a gust of 122km/h. Hopefully the Gardaí will be on to Hannah about breaking the speed limit. Even the average wind speed was very high in that region yesterday, clocking in at 93km/h.
Elsewhere, at Shannon Airport, a gust of 119km/h was record. Sherkin Island and Valentia both experienced top speeds of 114km/h.
