A weather advisory is in place.

Met Éireann is predicting Ireland may experience heatwave conditions this week as temperatures are set to reach the high twenties.

While it will be Wednesday before temperatures tick into the upper echelons, Met Éireann has said warm temperatures can also be expected Monday and Tuesday as well.

The phrase ‘heatwave conditions’ is being used as temperatures are set to be above normal for five days or more.

A weather advisory for the entire country is in place and will remain in effect until midnight on Sunday this weekend.

“Ireland will experience a hot spell developing from Wednesday and continuing through the rest of the week and the weekend,” Met Éireann said.

“Daytime temperatures will widely reach the mid to high twenties.”

The forecaster also warned that it would be uncomfortably warm at night due to the high temperatures.

Monday will be dry with long sunny spells but it could potentially turn a bit hazy at times with highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees.

As we move into Tuesday it will be more of the same, with hazy sunshine in many areas and temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees.

From Wednesday is when it will get very warm, with dry weather and strong sunshine bringing temperatures of 26 degrees in some areas.

The outlook from Thursday until the weekend is more of the same, with temperatures in the high 20s during the day and high teens at night time.

Met Éireann has advised there is the prospect of heat related of stress in the vulnerable population, a high UV index and an increased risk of water related incidents.
