Found suffering from hypothermia, the rescuers wished the pensioner a speedy recovery.

A missing 75-year-old was rescued by emergency services after becoming stuck in mud in heavy bog land in Cork.

In a statement, the Guileen Coast Guard reports that it was tasked at 7pm on Friday (30 October) by Gardai to reports of a missing pensioner in the Ballycotton area.

Upon arriving at the scene, the Ballycotton Coast Guard had commenced searches of the area and unit drones were launched.

Gardai and the Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery (CCMPSAR) also assisted in the search for the missing person.

Through the use of heat-seeking cameras, at around 10.30pm, the missing person was located in the bog land by the Ballycotton Coast Guard.

The team navigated the difficult terrain to reach the 75-year-old and administer first aid, as the person was suffering from hypothermia.

After 45 minutes and through the combined efforts of the emergency units on scene, the person was extracted from the bog land and taken to hospital as a precaution.

“We would like to wish the person a speedy recovery,” the Guileen Coast Guard wrote on Facebook.

“Great credit due to the Ballycotton Unit on locating the missing person and neighbours and residents of Ballycotton for their assistance. ”
