She is still in intensive care in Beaumont hospital.

The sister of debs crash victim Dlava Mohamad has woken from her coma.

18-year-old Avin Mohamad has been in intensive care in Beaumont Hospital since she was involved in the crash which claimed the lives of her sister Dlava and friend Kiea McCann in Monaghan last month.

Avin and Dlava’s older sister Lilev has revealed that Avin has awoken but is still unaware that her sister has died.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Lilev talked about the heartbreaking question her sister asked once she woke from her coma:

“She asked ‘where is my sister Dlava?’ Then we told her just to focus on herself and we didn’t say much because the doctors advised us not to say much about my other sister.

“She woke up about four days ago and she is responding well right now. We asked her name, do you know who I am, do you want anything and she’s able to answer these questions.

“The doctors say this is promising and she’s able to respond well but at the same time there are other possibilities as to how it’s going to affect her.

According to the Mirror, Avin’s family have been advised by doctors not to tell her of the full extent of the details just yet.

They have also been told that Avin is suffering from a brain injury which may require surgery in the future.

Garda investigation into Monaghan crash still ongoing.

The collision which cost the lives of Dlava and Kiea happened on the N54 at Legnakelly near Clones at around on July 31.

Kiea and Dlava had been best friends for years and were on their way to attend a Debs ball for the class of 2023 at Largy College in Clones when the crash occurred.

Gardaí are still investigating the incident, with a report yet to be published.

“We are still waiting for the garda report which they say is going to take weeks and they say that they don’t know yet because there are a lot of details and they need to investigate,” Lilev said.

“Also they are going to investigate their phones because we haven’t got their phones back yet. We have a lot of questions and we want to know why and what happened.”
