Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the death of mother-of-two, Danielle O'Keane who was fatally injured in a rickshaw accident in Dublin last weekend.
The young mother died in hospital on Thursday, October 1, after suffering a 'life-ending' brain injury when the rickshaw she was travelling in hit the curb on Saturday, September 26.
In a statement, Gardaí said: "At approximately 11:00pm, a woman (aged in her 30s) was struck by a vehicle. She was brought by ambulance to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries where she was subsequently pronounced deceased on Thursday 1st October 2026."
Danielle O’Keane, 37, originally from Newry, County Armagh, was travelling from the 3Arena to Dublin city centre to meet her husband Dave and friends after attending a Westlife concert when the accident occurred on North Wall Quay.
Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses, saying: "Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the vicinity of North Wall Quay on Saturday, 26th September 2026 between 10:30pm and 11:15pm, are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
A notice posted by Charles Digney and Sons Funeral Directors's Post reads: "Danielle R.I.P. Much loved wife of Dave and dear mother of Caolán and Cillian. Beloved daughter of Michael and Pauline, and dear sister of Barry and her twin Sean. Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on her soul.
"Deeply regretted by her sorrowing husband, children, parents, brothers, sisters in law, brothers in law, mother in law Dolores, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, family circle & friends."
Previously speaking to the Irish Mirror, Danielle’s brother-in-law Derek said the family has been left devastated by what happened to Danielle, who is mum to two young boys, aged five and two.
“She was the most sweetest girl you'd ever meet in your life, full of life, full of energy, heart of gold,” he said.
The family had also been looking forward to their first holiday together, with a trip to Mallorca planned for next week.
Derek said the family had packed their bags and that Danielle had “so much to look forward to”.
“She was only 37,” he said. “The two young boys... five and two years of age, they were all looking forward to their first family holiday.
“They were actually due to travel away to Mallorca on the fifth of October. The bags were packed and everything.”
A GoFundMe page was launched to support Danielle’s family with expenses during the devastating period.
At the time of writing, the appeal has raised £128,451 following a huge response from people in Ireland and beyond.
"Any donation is greatly appreciated along with prayers and thank you in advance for any donations," the page reads.
Charles Digney and Sons Funeral Directors said funeral arrangements will be publicised later.
