Man dies following single-vehicle crash at motor rally in Kerry

Very sad news.

A man has died following an accident that took place at a motor rally in Kerry on Sunday, 20 February.

A fatal single-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 2pm on Sunday at the event at Mount Eagle in Castleisland.

The driver of the car involved in the incident, a man aged in his 20s, suffered serious injuries.

He was taken by air ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where he later passed away.

A passenger travelling in the vehicle, a man aged in his 30s, was also taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment.

His injuries have been described as non life-threatening.

Gardaí are engaging with the relevant agencies in relation to the incident.

A statement issued by Killarney and District Motor Club reads:

“Killarney and District Motor Club regret to inform you that following an accident on SS4 of the Killarney Forestry Rally, a competitor succumbed to his injuries and passed away in Cork University Hospital tonight (Sunday).

“May he rest in peace. We extend our sympathies to his family and friends.”
