Two men arrested in relation to the murder of IRA double agent Denis Donaldson in 2006

Two men were arrested on Sunday in relation to the murder of Denis Donaldson in the village of Doochary in Donegal in 2006.

A man aged in his 40s arrested on 7 January as part of a Garda investigation into the murder of Denis Donaldson at Cloghercor, Doochary, Donegal in April 2006 has been released without charge.

A second man in his 30s remains in Garda custody. The investigation is ongoing.

Gardaí investigating the murder arrested two men (in their 30s and 40s) on Sunday, 7 January; both are currently detained at Letterkenny Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Donaldson, a former member of Sinn Féin and of the Provisional IRA, was murdered in April 2006 in Doochary, where he had been living since it emerged that he had been working as an agent for the British intelligence agency MI5.

The Real IRA admitted responsibility for his murder in 2009.
