There are currently 79 new hotels in development in Dublin alone right now

3,000 new hotel rooms are expected in the capital by the year 2020.

New details released state that as of 14 August this year, there are almost 80 new hotel projects in development across Dublin.

As per the Construction Information Services website, they have it broken down into four different sections:

Plans Submitted – 20 hotel developments have been submitted for planning in the Dublin City Council area to date in 2018, with a total of 1,560 bedrooms proposed.

Plans Granted – 15 hotel developments granted planning to date in 2018 with 1,401 bedrooms approved.

Tender/Contract Award – Outside and including the 2018 date range there are 11 hotel developments with a total of 1,478 bedrooms currently at a Tender or Contract Award stage. Of these, 982 bedrooms are hoped to start On-Site by the end of this year.

On-Site – 33 hotel projects at On-Site* stage are due to be completed between 2018 and 2020, with 2,425 bedrooms in the Dublin City Council area to be delivered in this time frame. (*On-Site describes any projects where building activity has begun.)

Combined, these add up to 79 hotels, and close to 3,000 new rooms.

Meanwhile, An Bord Pleanála has released an update showing it has given the green light for 2,272 houses and 2,108 apartments for a total of 4,380 housing units, as part of the government’s Strategic Housing Development.

Additionally, 4,085 student bed spaces have also been given the go-ahead, with the majority of the new developments taking place in Dublin, and the rest to be built in Kildare, Cork and Galway.
