Here are the new prices on Irish Rail, Bus Eireann, Luas and Dublin Bus in January 2018

Irish Rail

We’ve got some good news and some bad news.

Depending on your form of public transport, your travel costs next year could be going down or going up.

The National Transport Authority have revealed the new price plan for Irish Rail, Bus Eireann, Dublin Bus and Luas starting in 2018, and it represents further reason for people to move away from cash and sign up for the Leap card.

A more detailed breakdown can be found here, but here are the highlights as we see them:

Iarnród Eireann

Cork fares:

  • Leap card users on the Cork-Cobh-Midleton route, €4.74 decreases to €4.50
  • Cash users on the same route, €6.15 decreases to €5.90

Dublin fares:

  • Cash fares will climb from €3.95 to €4.10
  • Leap fares will rise by between 1.3% and 4.6%

Intercity fares:

  • 5.1% cuts to single fares from zones D onwards

Bus Eireann

Cash fares are set to generally increase, while Leap fares are set to decrease overall.

Check your local listings for region specific price-changes.

Dublin Bus

Kids up to the age of 5 go free, and increase on the maximum age.

Cash fares:

  • €2 fare increases to €2.10
  • €2.70 increases to €2.85
  • Xpresso €3.60 increases to €3.65

Leap fares:

  • €2.05 increases to €2.15
  • Xpresso €2.85 increases to €2.90

Nightlink fares:

  • Cash fare €6.50 increases to €6.60
  • Leap fare €5.20 increases to €5.29

LUAS

A new €1 off-peak Leap Card fare will be introduced for trips within the city-centre.

Cash fare:

  • Zone 1 – 4 journeys will increase by 10 cents across the board.
  • Top fare of €3.30 will remain unchanged

Luas fare:

  • Off-peak journeys will increase between 7 and 10 cents, depending on zones travelled.
  • On-peak journeys will increase between 3 and 9 cents, depending on zones travelled.
