No-deal Brexit looms closer as Parliament reject all four proposals

A no-deal Brexit is looking more and more likely as the days go on.

A vote that took place on Monday night has led to a no-deal Brexit becoming increasingly likely, as all four proposals were rejected by Parliament.

Two proposals to keep Britain in a customs union with the EU narrowly missed on a majority, while a proposal of a second referendum also came up short.

273 people voted in favour of the customs union, while 276 voted against it.

However, the votes on Monday night were not legally binding, so the government would not have been forced to adopt the proposals.

The DUP voted against all four proposals, while cabinet ministers had to abstain from taking part in the votes, according to The Guardian.

As it stands, without a solution, a no-deal Brexit will set in on 12 April, less than two weeks from now.

Earlier on Monday, Simon Coveney spoke about how a no-deal Brexit was becoming a “real possibility”, and how we as a country would have to start preparing as such.

He said: “In the absence of a British government cooperating in the way that they have committed to, to actually prevent checks on the island of Ireland, well then we need to try to come up with another plan, but it is difficult to do it.”
