The university said it is working to restore normal access as soon as possible.
NUI Galway has said it has been the victim of an attempted cyberattack on its IT systems.
In a statement posted to Twitter on Thursday (30 September), the university said its IT, cyber security and data protection specialists are “monitoring and investigating the incident closely.”
It also stated that at this point in time, there is “no evidence” of any data being compromised.
“As a precautionary measure, the university has disabled access between the campus network and the wider internet, impacting all users, including students and staff,” the university said.
It also cancelled a number of events that were due to take place on Thursday,
