The name change comes as part of a sponsorship deal with Three Ireland.

Dublin’s iconic Olympia Theatre is to be renamed as part of a new deal which will see telecommunications company Three Ireland become the venue’s primary sponsor.

The sponsorship will run over an initial eight-year period and see the venue renamed the ‘3Olympia Theatre’.

In a statement, Three said the investment of this partnership will provide support to the theatre as it prepares for its reopening and will ensure “the overall heritage and rich history of the building is preserved for years to come”.

Three is one of the leading sponsors of live music and entertainment in Ireland and is already the title sponsor of the 3Arena.

According to the company, the new sponsorship deal will see Three customers receive exclusive benefits to events at the 3Olympia Theatre.

Through the 3Plus app, Three customers will have access to pre-sale tickets 48 hours before they are made available to the public, as well as “special money can’t buy experiences”.

Three Ireland and Three UK’s Chief Commercial Officer Elaine Carey said: “As Ireland’s number one live music sponsor, we understand the importance that music and theatre play in the lives of our customers, and we want to ensure that they have access to the biggest and best experiences.

“This new sponsorship brings a wide range of benefits to Three Ireland customers, offering unrivalled access to some fantastic live events, which is something that is hugely important to us.

“Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19, music and the arts still remain an important part of our customers’ lives and they are as eager as ever to return to live events. We are excited to add 3Olympia Theatre to our amazing portfolio of music sponsorships and look forward to welcoming fans back to the theatre soon.”

“The past 18 months has been difficult for the live entertainment industry and the investment of Three in this new partnership is more important than ever in supporting the venue to reopen its doors once again,” Olympia Theatre owner Caroline Downey added.

To celebrate the sponsorship, Three said it has partnered with some of Ireland’s finest performers to pay “a very special tribute” to some of the artists who have played at the 3Olympia Theatre throughout the years.

The free live stream concert will be available for all music lovers to tune in to with details to be announced soon.
