One Dublin pub is planning to keep its doors shut on Good Friday as a gesture to staff

We wonder will many others follow suit?

The ban on boozing outside the four walls of your house on Good Friday has been lifted, meaning the government have inadvertently created another Paddy’s Day just 13 days after Ireland drinks itself various shades of green.

You can say goodbye to fevered, Black Friday-style queues outside off licences on Holy Thursday but one Dublin pub is determined not to open on a day that, for the last 90 years, prohibited the sale of alcohol to the public.

NuBar in Dublin City University say they’ll stay closed and give their staff a well-earned break.

“So news in, the sale of alcohol is ok on GOOD FRIDAY…” read a post on the bar’s Facebook page.

“Well here at NUBAR our staff are important and always enjoy Good Friday off so we wont be opening Good Friday… our hard working staff will be taking a Friday off to spend at home and chill, something they don’t often get to do.”

It’ll be interesting to see if any other establishments follow their lead.
