One man has died following a serious assault in Waterford

One man has passed away in hospital following a serious assault which occurred in Waterford on Saturday.

Gardaí in Waterford are investigating the incident which occurred at the junction of John Street and The Manor at approximately 3am on Saturday 7 July.

The 27-year-old man involved in the altercation received a number of head injuries as a result. Authorities have since confirmed that the injured man has died as a result of his injuries.

He was taken by Ambulance to University Hospital in Waterford and subsequently transferred to Cork University Hospital where he passed away on Friday.

A 25-year-old man was arrested the morning following the incident and detained at Waterford Garda station. He was released without charge that evening.
