Shocking scenes from Sydney.

One woman has been pronounced dead and another hospitalised, following a knife attack in central Sydney.

It is believed that the second woman is in a stable condition, according to the BBC.

The incident unfolded between Clarence St and York St, a busy area in Sydney’s city centre. Police have confirmed that they are dealing with “multiple crime scenes,” and that the perpetrator had attempted to stab several more people. The incident occurred at 2pm local time, and 5am Irish time.

Video from the scene appears to show the knife-wielding attacker climbing on top of a car, which drives away, causing him to fall. Further footage shows the man set upon by members of the public, who use chairs, tables and plastic crates to trap him and pin him to the ground.

A reporter from 7 News Sydney has shared a video of the perpetrator’s capture online. The man has since been arrested by the police, and police have said the threat is not ongoing.

Footage of the man’s capture can be seen below.
