Shannon Airport say they are working to remove the aircraft involved in an incident on Thursday morning from the scene so they can resume safe operations on the runway.
Shannon Airport have warned that this may take some time, but they are advising passengers to continue with check-in and will update passengers with the latest developments.
All outgoing and incoming passengers have been advised to contact their respective airlines.
Shannon Airport have announced that passengers for American Airlines will not be checked in until further notice, Delta Air Lines have suspended check-in until further notice and Aer Lingus flights EI 380 and EI 381 London Heathrow have now been cancelled. Affected passengers have been advised to contact Aer Lingus.
A further update is expected at 10am on Thursday.
In a statement to JOE, a spokesperson for Shannon Aiport said: “Shannon Group has confirmed that airport operations at Shannon Airport have been temporarily suspended due to an incident at 6.15am this morning involving a Boeing 763 aircraft, Omni Air International 531, on the runway.
“Airport Emergency services have extinguished an external fire to the undercarriage. All passengers and crew have disembarked safely and are currently in the terminal building. The airport operations team are currently working with the operator to remove the aircraft from the runway as soon as possible.
“The airport is experiencing flight disruption and intending passengers are asked to contact their airline. Flight updates are available on the airport social media channels. Next media update at 10:30hrs.”
Omni Air International is a civilian airline that transports personnel for the US military.
