So much for summer…

Brace yourselves on this Saturday (29 June) morning as the conditions are especially strong in certain parts of the country.

Met Éireann has issued two separate status orange warnings concerning thunderstorms, both of which came into effect in the early hours of the morning.

The first warning applies to Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Waterford and is valid until noon on Saturday.

In that instance, thunderstorms will affect the eastern half of Ireland with heavy downpours and the risk of hail and gusty winds.

Temporary surface flooding is a possibility, alongside the risk of hail leading to hazardous driving conditions in some areas.

The second warning concerns Tipperary and is in place until 10am on Saturday.

In that case, the same conditions as described above are expected to take effect.

There is also a status yellow marine warning in place for small crafts.

Issued at 5am on Saturday, the warning details south to southwest winds that will increase to force 6 at times throughout the day on Irish coasts from Hook Head to Loop Head to Malin Head.
