Orange Weather Warning in place as 130km/h winds expected to hit Ireland tonight

High winds expected to hit the West of Ireland tonight.

An orange wind warning is in place for several West Coast counties this evening as they will be hit by winds as high as 130km/h tonight.

The counties in question include Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

According to Met Éireann, there will be an “extremely windy period from Saturday afternoon through to early Sunday morning.

“Southwest veering west winds will reach mean speeds 65 to 80km/h with gusts of 110 km/h., but gusts of up to 130km/h, are likely on exposed coasts and headlands for a time in the evening and early night.”

As for the rest of the country, a yellow wind warning is in place for Clare, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Kildare, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Meath, Roscommon, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford, and Wicklow.

Both warnings are valid from Saturday 28 February 14:00, to Sunday 01 March 06:00.

If you’re heading out tonight just make sure to keep in mind that the weather will be woeful.
