Our old friend ‘orange alert’ is back to batter the country, with high winds and floods expected

Keep it indoors, folks.

Tony Cuddihy

It seems a while since we’ve had a good ‘orange alert’ – at least a week – but Met Eireann are warning of some strong winds and flooding in the coming days.

There will be “extremely windy, blustery conditions at times during the rest of the weekend, with winds gusting between 100 and 130 km/h at times — highest in coastal areas,” according to the weather service, with the west, north-west and Co. Kerry set to be the worst affected.

Sunday afternoon and evening will see conditions at their worst with “occasionally heavy, squally, thundery downpours of rain” to come.

Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Kerry and Limerick have all been issued with orange alerts, while a ‘status yellow’ warning is in place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford.

Our advice? Beer and pizza, lads, beer and pizza. Maybe build yourselves a fort. Get creative, but stay indoors.
