Hundreds of Berkeley properties have water or moisture damage.

The housing authority of the City of Berkeley have reported that 18% – over 400 hundred – properties are officially unsafe.

According to RTÉcompulsory building inspections have come into place since the Berkeley tragedy last summer.

However, more properties in the area may actually fit into the above category, with nearly 30% of property owners in Berkeley ignoring inspection requests.

A spokesperson for the Berkeley city authority has said that “not only (had they) worked incredibly hard to investigate the situation” but had also “proposed and implemented a series of measures involving decks, balconies, staircases and other exterior structures to try and prevent such an accident from happening again”.

Meanwhile, the families of the victims and injured from last year’s tragedy are currently suing 35 companies for damages.
