Pakistan Airlines advert shows plane flying into Eiffel Tower

Many on social media have pointed out the adverts eery mirroring of the 9/11 attacks.

Pakistan Airlines have sparked controversy with their new advert for flights from Islamabad to Paris.

The advert, which was posted on the airline’s Instagram page, shows a plane heading directly towards the Eiffel Tower.

The jarring image contains the message: “Paris, we’re coming today.”

Hundreds of people rushed to the comments section of the post, referencing the image’s likeness to the 9/11 terror attacks which resulted in the deaths of 2,977 people in New York in September 2001.

Others have wondered how the triggering graphic got approved in the first place, with one user commenting: “I will personally pay for y’all to get a new creative agency.”

The state-run airline was given permission to resume direct flights to Europe after a four-year ban over safety standards was lifted this week.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the announcement, saying it would help improve the airline’s image.

It seems the work of one graphic designer has achieved the opposite effect, as the promotion has turned out to be a rather mortifying affair for the airline.

The curb on Pakistan Airlines was imposed in 2020 after 97 people died when one of their planes crashed in Karachi in southern Pakistan.

Then-aviation minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan said an investigation into the crash found that nearly a third of Pakistani pilots had cheated on their pilot exams.

A government probe later concluded that the crash was caused by pilot error.

The ban caused a loss of nearly 150 million dollars a year in revenue for PIA, government officials told The Independent.
