At least 128 people are feared dead after a series of shootings and explosions carried out in Paris last night.
Incidents occurred at six separate locations across the French capital last night, with the majority of lives lost in a mass shooting at the Bataclan concert hall, where Eagles of Death Metal had been due to perform.
As many as 80 people are reported to have died as gunmen stormed the venue and began shooting last night; security forces later secured the building but as they entered it, a number of the gunmen detonated suicide belts, killing themselves and setting off explosions in the building.
Explosions also occurred near the Stade de France, where the French football team were in action against Germany. Footage taken from the Stade de France showed that an explosion could clearly be heard while the game was taking place, while fans gathered on the pitch after the game.
A number of shootings also took place at bars and restaurants throughout the city in what is the largest series of attacks in Europe since the 2004 Madrid bombings.
Commenting on last night’s atrocities, French President Francois Hollande said: “We are going to lead a war which will be pitiless.
“Because when terrorists are capable of committing such atrocities they must be certain that they are facing a determined France, a united France, a France that is together and does not let itself be moved, even if today we express infinite sorrow.”
