Former President of the Olympic Council of Ireland Pat hickey is on his way back to Ireland following his arrest in Brazil during the course of the Rio Olympics.

On Monday this week, he was given permission by a Brazilian judge to leave the country according to The Irish Times.

Judge Marcello Rubioli ordered the return of Hickey’s passport after Hickey paid a bond of 1.5m Brazilian real (approximately €410,000) to the court.

It is understood that the money was a loan from the Association of National Olympic Committees after the OCI refused to pay the bond.

Hickey was arrested in Rio de Janeiro during the Olympics in August in an investigation into alleged ticket touting and has remained in Brazil since.

His passport, as well as the passport of Irishman Kevin Mallon from THG Sports, were seized by Brazilian police following the arrest.
