A pedestrian in their 40s has died following a collision in Cork.

The fatal crash occurred last night, Saturday, September 20 around 9.15pm on the M8 Motorway northbound, at Carrigane, Mitchelstown.

The collision occurred between junction 11 and junction 12 northbound on the M8 motorway, involving a car and a male pedestrian aged 40 years, who was fatally injured.

His body was removed to the Mortuary in Cork University Hospital where a postmortem will take place in due course.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was uninjured in the collision.

The M8 Motorway between junction 11 and junction 12 northbound remianed closed this morning pending a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to make this footage available to Gardaí.
