Pedestrian in her 70s dies after road crash in Sligo

A woman has died following a road crash in Sligo on Tuesday (26 April).

The collision occurred at around 4pm at the junction of Castle Street and Market Street in Sligo town and involved a car and pedestrians.

A female pedestrian in her early 70s was pronounced dead at the scene.

A male pedestrian, meanwhile, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Sligo University Hospital.

The driver and passenger of the car were also transferred to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.

Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage, including dashcam footage, and were travelling in the Castle Street or Market Street areas between 4pm and 4.15pm are asked to make it available to Gardaí.

“An Garda Síochána are aware that some mobile phone camera footage is being shared on social media,” a Garda spokesperson said in a statement.

“An Garda Síochána are appealing for people not to further share this imagery if they come across it out of respect for the family of the deceased.”
