Temple Street Hospital has warned that they are 'off-call until further notice' thanks to severe power outages affecting the hospital.
The hospital suffered a brief power outage at 3am Thursday morning and switched to its own power generator, only to then discover a "transformer in the hospital’s own sub-station had developed a fault and shut down which will necessitate it being replaced."
The hospital has had to transfer their "five most critical patients to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin purely as a precautionary measure until the additional backup generator is installed."
20 surgeries have been postponed, as well as selective x-rays.
Crucially, the hospital has urged parents not to bring their children to Temple Street Hospital today. All urgent cases should be redirected to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and National Children’s Hospital Tallaght.
A temporary generator is expected to be connected by this evening, and a full replacement of the generator by Sunday August 6.
