Patrick ‘Pakie’ Wall, a 97-year-old retired farmer from Ballydineen, Kilmihil in Clare has been named as the Grand Marshall for this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ennis.

Patrick will join the Mayor of Ennis, Pat Daly, after being nominated for the prestigious position by the Clare County Council.

He’s the oldest living Patrick in the county and his daughter, Carmel Bohannon, has been describing her father’s reaction to the news.

“He mentioned jokingly ‘’sure that must nearly be me’,’ hence my decision to nominate him,” Carmel stated.

“Dad has always enjoyed good health and attributes that to plenty fresh air and hard work.

“He is a very popular man in the locality and always made himself available to lend a helping hand to his neighbours and friends down through the years. This is a great honour for him and the wider family.”

The 2016 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ennis will start at 11am, with over 10,000 people expected to attend.
