Pic: Astronaut tweets photo of explosions in Gaza and Israel from space

If only they could see earth from this vantage point.

Alan Loughnane

We all know what is happening over in Gaza recently and we have seen the disturbing videos that various news agencies are displaying on their websites, but now we have gotten a completely different view of the conflict from the International Space Station.

German astronaut Alexander Gerst last night tweeted a picture of the conflict zone where explosions in the region can apparently be seen all the way from outer space.

In the photo you can clearly see the clusters and bundles of light which represent the cities, but inside some of the clusters are patches of intensely bright light. These are reported to be explosions detonating in the in the urban areas.

The image has been retweeted over 21,000 times and many Twitter users have expressed their outrage and shock at the image.

We have seen Chris Hadfield tweet some wonderful pictures of earth in the past but we can’t help but be disturbed by these latest images from the German flight engineer.
