Pic: By the beard of Zeus! Inspirational Senator David Norris shaves off his beard for charity

“I look like a bloody bank manager!”

Eoghan Doherty

Senator David Norris shaved off his iconic 40-year-old beard this morning when appearing on The Ray D’arcy Show on Today FM.

The inspirational TD and former Presidential candidate had pledged that he would remove his beard if the Irish public voted against the referendum to abolish the Seanad and so, live on The Ray D’Arcy Show, he brilliantly honoured his promise, removing both his facial fur and years from his appearance.

Senator Norris’ barber of 35 years, Tony MacMichael of Sheppards Barber on Wicklow Street, shaved his beard and hair to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society.  The Senator is currently undergoing treatment for a tumour on his liver, which he has been told is inoperable and, following the shave, was going to St. Vincents for his third round of embolization treatment.

All monies raised will go to Today FM’s Shave or Dye benefiting the Irish Cancer Society, 50% of which will be allocated to Professor John Crown’s Cancer Research Trust.

To donate €2 you can text SHAVE to 50300, with thanks to Like Charity, or you can also sponsor Senator David Norris on his MyCharity page here.

Here at JOE we want to wish the Senator the very best of luck with his ongoing treatment and congratulate him again on this morning’s fantastically generous gesture.

“I look like a bloody bank manager!” he remarked after catching a glimpse of his new appearance. Some fava beans and a nice Chianti anyone?
