Pic: If you rob a phone off someone on O’Connell Street, make sure it’s not an Irish Olympic pentathlete

Irish Olympian 1, Thief 0.

To everyone who’s ever had their phone nicked, this will bring a wide smile to your face.

If you’ve ever had your phone stolen, you’ll know how much of a pain in the hole it is.

Much as you’d like to mete out some justice to the thief responsible, however, in most cases you just have to accept it as you’re never likely to set eyes on them again.

One thief in Dublin picked the wrong man to mess with today after swiping a phone out of the hands of a man on O’Connell Street.

What he didn’t realise was that the man in question was Arthur Lanigan O’Keefe, who represented Ireland at the London Olympics in 2012 and won back to back silver medals in Modern Pentathlon World Cup events earlier this year.

Arthur wasn’t about to let the thief off and caught him fairly easily, reclaimed his phone and even drew a cheer from onlookers to put the icing on the cake.

He was well entitled to have a bit of a gloat on Facebook afterwards and we’ll certainly raise a glass to him after ensuring that justice was done.

To Arthur…

To the man on O’Connells street who grabbed my phone out of my hands and did a runner. Next time be more careful who you…
