This is what true happiness looks like. One of the photos of the year.
Last September El Mundo journalist Javier Espinosa and photographer Ricardo Garcia Vilanova were taken captive in Syria by an armed group near the Iraqi border. On Saturday, with no confirmation of how they were freed, Espinosa contacted El Mundo in Spain to say they were now in the hands of the Turkish military.
Yesterday, the pair flew into the military airport of Torrejon in Madrid and Espinosa’s young son Yerai ran to meet his father off the plane. The joy on Espinosa’s face is priceless.
