Pic: New York Times forced to clarify that Enda Kenny is, in fact, a man

Taoiseach Enda Kenny gets a bad rap on his own patch at times, but can there be a bigger blow to his reputation than to have his gender questioned in one of the world’s biggest newspapers?

Taoiseach Enda Kenny gets a bad rap on his own patch at times, but can there be a bigger blow to his reputation than to have his gender questioned in one of the world’s biggest newspapers?

Kenny was mentioned in an obituary for Seamus Heaney that appeared in the New York Times online edition yesterday as he, along with President Michael D Higgins, commented on the legacy left by one of Ireland’s finest ever poets following his sad passing.

Look at the article now, however, and you will see that it includes a quite brilliant retraction at the bottom of the page, clarifying a mistake that had been made when the original piece had been published.

We assume that it was all just an innocent mistake and that the author of the piece in question probably typed ‘Edna’ instead of Enda, or who knows, maybe they just caught sight of this photo and made their own assumptions.
