Pre-election shenanigans reaching fever pitch in Longford.

A Sinn Féin candidate has accused the team of a Fine Gael TD of stealing his election leaflets and doing a legger when quizzed about it in Longford this evening.

Paul Hogan, who is running as a candidate in Longford/Westmeath for Sinn Féin, took to Facebook to make the accusation against representatives of Fine Gael TD James Bannon and against Bannon himself, whom he claimed was interviewed by Gardai shortly afterwards.

I just caught James Bannon's team stealing my leaflets in Ballymahon and he made a run for a car when asked about it….

Hogan claims that he caught Bannon and his team stealing leaflets belonging to Hogan in Ballymahon in Longford today and that Bannon did a runner when quizzed about it. Furthermore, Hogan suggested that Bannon’s team might have done likewise with leaflets belonging to Labour candidates in the area.

JOE reached out to Bannon’s representatives for comment this evening and are still awaiting a response.
