“I’m struck with how ahead of its time the proclamation was.”
Barack Obama has always enjoyed a special relationship with Ireland, and he reminded everyone of that with his speech on St. Patrick’s Day, when he referenced an article from the Galway City Tribune.
While we’re never too surprised when he shares kind words about Ireland, we didn’t expect this statement regarding 1916.
Obama talked about how ahead of its time and “visionary” the proclamation was when it was written 100 years ago, with special mention given to the line about “cherishing all the children of the nation equally”.
The American leader comes across as genuinely inspired in this statement here, as posted by the US Embassy in Dublin’s Twitter page.
