Usain Bolt has lost his final 100m race in a surprising defeat to Justin Gatlin.
Bolt was expected to clinch yet another gold medal on Saturday evening in the 100-meter final of the track and field world championships in London but controversial runner Gatlin, who has previously served a lengthy ban for drug cheating, held an early lead all the way to the finish line.
Gatlin paid tribute to Bolt, surely the world’s finest ever sprint, during his celebrations. The US runner got on his knees and bowed to Bolt — a consistent, consummate record-breaker and world champion over the course of the last decade.

Gatlin was gracious during his post-race interview. “I won by a little margin. It’s Usain Bolt’s last race… I’ve had so many victories, so many losses…. To be able to run against him throughout the years is amazing.”
“We’re rivals on the track but the first thing he said to me is congratulations, you worked hard for this and you don’t deserve all these boos. He’s an amazing man.”
"The first thing he said to me was congratulations."
