No injuries have been reported.

A Ryanair flight, with a number of passengers on board who were travelling home to Ireland to vote in the abortion referendum, was involved in a collision with another plane while on the runway in Stansted Airport on Friday morning.

The FR205 Ryanair flight, which was scheduled to leave Stansted at 8.15am on Friday, was waiting on the runway when it was hit by a Primera plane taxiing behind it. No injuries have been reported.

The Primera flight, which was scheduled to travel to Malaga, scraped the tail stabiliser of the Ryanair plane on the runway shortly after 9am.

A Ryanair spokesperson released the following statement confirming the incident and the airline’s plans to rectify the situation.

“One of our aircraft was stationary at the designated holding point on the taxiway at London Stansted Airport this morning (25 May) when the winglet of a Primera Air aircraft (taxiing behind) scraped its tail stabiliser,” the statement read.

“Both aircraft were under the instruction of London Stansted Air Traffic Control at the time. The Ryanair aircraft returned to stand to be inspected by Ryanair engineers. To minimise delay, customers will transfer to a replacement aircraft later this morning.”

It’s understood that a number of Irish residents who were flying home to vote in Friday’s referendum on the Eighth Amendment were on board the aircraft during the incident.

It’s been confirmed by Ryanair that the passengers affected will be transferred to another aircraft and flown home slightly later than scheduled.
