Plans are in place to give Dublin its own brand new ‘urban food market’

If it gets approval, the market will be located bang in the middle of Dublin city centre.

Plans are afoot to create a brand new urban food market in the middle of Dublin city.

The Irish capital has been crying out for a space similar to Cork’s thriving English Market for some time, and an old church Suffolk Street may be the answer.

St. Andrew’s Church was most recently used as an office for Fáilte Ireland but the hope is that Irish entrepreneur Michael Wright can turn it into a thriving food market by June 2018.

The Marquette at St. Andrew’s Church will look to similar spots in London, New York and Stockholm and, as well as selling both food and drink, could also be used as a live music and entertainment venue.

Wright is expected to generate up to 120 jobs with the project at a cost of around €3m, and there is expected to be room for up to 14 different food categories.
