Porridge brand recalled over fears of “moth infestation”

Not what you’d want to find in your morning porridge…

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a warning, advising all customers who have bought a certain batch of Barkat Gluten Free Porridge Flakes to return to the product to the point of sale, or dispose of it entirely.

The warning further reads “As a precautionary measure, the above batch of Barkat organic gluten free porridge flakes is being recalled following consumer complaints of the presence of small Grain Moths and their larvae.”

In addition to advice for consumers, the FSAI has also advised that “Food businesses are requested to remove the affected batch from sale and clearly display a Point of Sale recall notice informing customers not to eat the implicated porridge flakes.”

Consumers have been advised that the way to identify the affected batch is by best before date. Any Barkat Gluten Free Porridge Flakes labelled “Best before 06/10/2018” could be affected.

The FSAI has also provided a photo of the product in order to aid consumers.

The product originated in the Netherlands.
