PrepayPower customers get another winter without energy price hikes

PrepayPower has announced a winter price freeze on electricity and gas for 200,000 customers across Ireland, keeping their rates unchanged until spring for the second year in a row.

The country’s largest pay-as-you-go energy provider lets customers manage their electricity and gas credit through an app, rather than paying through a traditional bill.

The announcement comes as wholesale energy prices have climbed over the past year, with concerns about possible disruption to European gas supplies adding to uncertainty in the market.

PrepayPower says maintaining current rates will offer customers some relief as they manage household expenses over the winter months.

Energy costs remain a concern

PrepayPower confirmed the freeze on Tuesday morning, with managing director Eric Mulane pointing to growing worries about energy costs.

“People often assume pay-as-you-go costs more, but on the energy regulator's own comparison measure, our electricity prices are cheaper than most bill pay suppliers' standard tariffs,” he said.

He added that the freeze would give customers greater peace of mind when planning their winter spending.

The announcement comes ahead of Budget 2027, with Fine Gael signalling that the fuel excise duty cut could be extended.
