Penneys could be gaining quite a substantial amount of staff.

Members of staff in Primark, the English equivalent of Penneys, have been told that they may have to decide between redundancy or working in Dublin.

The changes will affect staff at Primark’s UK office in Reading, with roles in buying, sourcing, quality control, design and merchandising set to be shifted to Dublin from September.

Speaking to JOE, a spokesperson for Primark spoke about the redundancies, saying: “All of our people who are in any affected roles will have the opportunity to work in Dublin.

“We recognise that being based in Dublin may not be an option for everybody and if an alternative position cannot be found, then redundancy will be our last resort. As you would expect, we cannot speculate about redundancies.”

This comes following a statement made by Lorraine Culligan, the Group Director People & Culture Primark, which said: “It is important that the scale of our business and the needs of our customers are reflected in our internal structures as Primark continues to grow.

“All of our people who are in any affected roles will have the opportunity to work in Dublin. Our colleagues will be fully supported during this period of change. Primark’s office in Reading continues to play a vital role in our business and many of our teams across a number of core functions will continue to be based there.”

A number of newspapers reported that it was related to Brexit, but there has been no confirmation that this is the case.
